Ok, not enough room in the subject line to explain, but here we go....Can you see the mistake my pharmacist made? Shake the bottle????? Der brain! He's a nice guy, I pointed it out to him, he said, it sometimes happens coz the labels are all lined up close together and can get caught up. I suggested he space them out, perhaps some patient might get the wrong label, he blushed and agreed.
Now, there is also a new yellow sticker on the pack stating, 'DO NOT TAKE DAIRY PRODUCTS, ANTACIDS, IRON OR CALCIUM SUPPLEMENTS WITHIN TWO HOURS OF EACH DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE' .. my opinion? HOO BLOODY RAY!!!!!! How many people get hypo from doing the exact opposite...would save thousands of doctor hours in dealing with thyroid patients who never bothered to read the instructions for use inside the pack.
Ok another interesting thing, or two, as you can see, our thyroxine is in blister packs. No more contamination of fingers into bottles! Note, how it states to keep refrigerated, again, I can not stress this enough for you Americans, DON'T keep your itty bitty white tablets on the counter where the temperatures fluctuate throughout the day, or on your bedside table. Just coz you have an air con or a heater going does not mean your temperature to store the tablets is continually correct!
Ok just thought it would be cool to show you how we get our thyroxine (T4 medication) The generic brand is Oroxine...guess what? The same pharmaceutical company, Sigma, makes it!
I will make sure to tell my friend who takes a thryoid medication to refrigerate it. I had no idea. I don't remember which one she takes, though. I'm pretty sure she keeps hers on the shelf, though, so I should tell her.
