15 Ways to Prevent Lung Cancer

Drink Alcohol Sparingly

Studies have linked heavy drinking (3 or more drinks a day) to an increased risk of developing lung cancer. If you drink, keep it moderate —  one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men, at most.

And if you do plan to drink in moderation, you might want to stick to red wine. A 2008 study from researchers at Kaiser Permanente found a strong link between red wine and a decreased risk of lung cancer among men. That may be due to a chemical called resveratrol, an antioxidant associated with cancer protection and heart health. However, experts still caution that for smokers, the best way to significantly reduce their risk of lung cancer is to quit smoking as soon as possible.
