forgot to add that it should not be used for 'energy'.  it should be used for things that require attention.  for example - a student may require more than a stay at home mom.  or someone who has to read a lot for work vs someone who doesn't.  now that i am basically a stay at home mom, I am not being treated at all.  i still struggle with bills, etc..  it takes me A LOT longer than someone who doesn't have ADD, but i do not feel i need 90 mg a day like i did when I had to a lot of reading, emailing, meetings etc

i used to be prescribed 30 mg 3 x a day.  i think it has more to do with how bad your ADD is and not so much on weight.  someone with mild ADD doesn't require as much as someone with severe ADD. also, someone who requires a lot of 'pay attention' tasks per day may require more than someone who is not doing a lot of 'pay attention' type activities.

One time my doctor told me that 30mg/day was the max dose recommended by the FDA for ADD.  However, I can't find this info anywhere else and I'm not sure it is correct.  Or it may be outdated.

A normal adult dose is 10 to 15 mg twice a day.  I've heard a lot of people on here claiming to take doses of 60 mg a day.  Some other people came to take doses of over 100 mg a day (I find this hard to believe).

I think 30 mg a day is a "solid dose for a heavy person."  Maybe 40 or even 60 if a person has been taking it for a long time.  But this is pushing it.  I don't think very many doctors would be willing to write for more than that.

Oh, IR as in "immediate release"?   Limits are 50 for ir and 30 for xr.  I read the chart wrong in the above answer.
It sounds like you are taking 30mg 3 times a day?  I would think an XR or something like Vyvannse would make life easier.   But at any rate check out the last link I gave on the sides of the window to figure out what should be happening.

No easy answer here.   First I assume you mean Adderall XR?  Let me know if you don't because the next sentence is about XR. Most Charts list 50mgs as the maximum dose.  And weight really has less to do with the dosage then one would think.
Dr. Charles Parker, author of "New ADHD Medication Rules", says, "I always steer completely away from an answer to the question of ‘just what is your top dose?’ because that discussion drives practitioners away from the essential practice of careful titration into cookie cutter medicine – a point with which I am completely philosophically at odds… don’t get me started!"     : http://www.corepsych.com/2009/06/vyvanse-dosage-for-adhd-finding-the-safe-top-of-the-window/#ixzz32rSz4B8n
His point being that the top dose is what works for you.  There are many reasons why a normal dose does not work.  You may be an ultrarapid metabolizer, or you may have a very slow "transit time".  -  http://www.corepsych.com/2014/02/transit-time-explained/?inf_contact_key=59088746d0baae05279ff1ca1ebecd103b43da470d9b2c75e3ea2887e4ec2b84
Or, as he explains in Chapt. 6 in his book - your metabolism and thus your burn rate is different then the normal persons.
Thus, if you look just at the charts- 90 is over the top.  However, if you read Parkers post here about the sides of the window, it might be acceptable.  The link also lets you know how to figure out how well the meds are working for you. That link is - http://www.corepsych.com/2008/11/add-adhd-medication-find-the-sides-of-the-therapeutic-window/
Hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any more questions.
