Hi there, stumbled on this forum whilst pulling the last 3 remaining hairs outta my head (hehe) looks a great place.
After the lastest"review" at CAMHS(Child and adolescent mental health services) I was informed that my son will no longer be eligble to receive prescriptions for Concerta(methylphenidate). This will be due to a large backlog in the NHS and they can only offer support/receive funding for children upto the age of 16.
I was told this is nothing specific against us just general policy, so I was wondering where to turn next to coninue the treatment offered?
My son was diagnosed over 10yrs ago but we only over the last few years accepted the medication which has proved very successful in helping my son regain some control over his life.
He is due to leave school in a few months and enter college in September and the thought of him entering this important phase of his life without the support this mediaction offers kinda fills us all with dread.
Without the help of Concerta to help him settle and FOCUS he would never have been able to undertake and acheive(WE HOPE) GCSE grades good enough for him to enter college to start a basic BTEC course.
We have been told that a GP cannot prescribe for ADHD without a referral.
So my question is where did anyone else go after there child became "too old"/reached 16 and wanted to continue with there medication for a little while longer?
FYI the dosage is 54mg Concerta given in the A.M. usually lasting to around the evening meal time, additonal medication(ritalin) was offered to take him through the rest of the day but this didnt work out.
Thanks in advance
