Thanks for posting the info Sandman... I have been reading all over these ADHD forums, and you have some of the best reply's out there. Your insight and knowledge is very commendable. :)
I was just diagnosed whith ADHD a few months ago, and I'm 30 years old. Been suffering with it all of my life and couldn't figure out what was so wrong with me. I self medicated with opiates that I naively thought was fixing all the bad areas in my life, i.e., lack of focus, depression, anxiety's, social anxiety, chronic fatigue, all kinds of bad. I learned about 6 months later that was a bad idea as it lead to a crippiling dependance to those dang opiates. I poured my heart and sole into fighting my way out of that terrible addiction, and am doing very well, and staying strong every day.
Seeing how much insight and experience you have on ADD and ADHD, do you know if it's more common for someone who has undiagnosed ADHD to be more suseptable to substance abuse problems? I've scowered the internet looking for info about the possible connection, but have found so little about it.
I'm really struggeling with my tolerance to the stims as well, it is astoundingly high... When I first started them, they were a god send. I never felt better in my life... But my tolerance quickly grew, and fast. Even at high dosages it has little to no effect on me. I'm just wondering if it is because of my prior opiate dependancy, or if is my certain type of chemistry...
I'm going to check PBS to see if the show about Adult ADHD will be airing again. Thanks for posting such useful advice on these forums, I sure would love to get your take on these two issues! Merry Christmas :)
Thanks for the good vibes. I will get back to you with some more info on your question. Just wanted to add that the same people who did the special have a web site called - totallyadd.com - it is essentially all short videos. Been through a couple and they are pretty much from the show - without the commercials. So you might find that an easier route to go. A very Merry Christmas to you - it sounds like you have something to celebrate this year!
