New ADHD Commercials

Has anyone seen the new ads for ADHD on CBS TV? Great! We already have an over-diagnosed ailment and now the pharmaceutical industry is targeting parents directly. Many conscientious mothers and fathers are going to fall prey to this one-pill fix. Our poor children!

There won't be the kind of change you are talking about. The drug companies are hand-in-glove with Congress, so who is going to rein them in?

then all drug companies are no different. Its not just are children it adults elderly everyone. they advertise for every drug anymore.  This will all change If there is medical for all, noone to profit as much anymore. One thing I do like about it.

Surely when someone has a serious problem with a child, he goes to a doctor. He doesn't need an ad to tell him to. The ads in this case offer pre-diagnosis, and some doctors are all too susceptible to parent pressure. In any case, the ads are meant to push the drug and make money. There is no benevolence here.

That may be so. I just find it a very controversial subject and people like to come here and complain where doping up are kids so I get pissy sorry no offense meant. I understand where your coming from but at the same time people may not know there's help for a child like that if they don't read or hear about it. I see brochures all the time in doctors offices too.

No one is questioning that there are children out there who have ADD and need medication. Our quarrel is that children are being medicated who do not have the ailment. That is very harmful. Making the ailment "popular" through advertising lessens the importance of the ailment and invites parents to choose the medication route for minor problems unrelated to ADD.

do u guys have children who suffer with addhd. Let me loan u mine for a week and see what you think. I am having him retested for some other sort of mood disorder though. I have suffered all my life with mental problems so to let my son suffer would not be giving him the best opportunity in life. He would be going into 1st grade for the second time without the meds. While I agree that there should not be any adds exept for the new intuitive non stimulant drug I feel this should be a suport forum not a place to degrade people who have tried everything to help there children. Maybe they are over used but some children really do need the help. many go on to having mood disorders in life. maybe its the environment and the chemicals in it that cause this sort of thing but one things for sure u talk to older people and kids never behaved like this before so there must be a reason for it. This is not a debate forrum or a sight for putting parents down u feel they have no other options. I only give my child the meds for school I deal with him on my own at home. Its hard he takes up most of my time and time away for my 3 other kids witch is hard on them too. They evan complain about him all the time my 4 year old is half the age and complains about him. but I want to help him learn coping skills at home. Iv been through the counseling with my son and they said hes cured. as far as being on the meds. the therapy didn't work with out the meds. Its a chore to just get my child ready for school. The fighting him to get reality is endless. as are all little tasks. he never completes anything he starts. He gets distracted in a min or two. Im making a suggestion to the mods to stop the debating in this forum there is plenty of places other than here to debate it. I asked my son this morning if he thought he had other issues and he said yes he wants to go back to the doctor and be reevaluated.. Thats sad when an 8 year old knows he has problems now Im cring. The last thing I want is for my son to go through what I have for 20 years before getting the right diagnosis
