Adrenal insufficiency

Hi. Basically I've been feeling horribly fatigued and dizzy with terrible muscle cramps, nausea, low appetite, and now diarrhea. Badgered the doctors over and over but they kept thinking I was just depressed or something. I was on prednisone for a month in January because of my asthma, finally asked them to check out my cortisol. Morning Baseline came back as 1.6 but they told me it was fine... Until I pointed it out. Then the agreed with me and referred to endocrinologist. Problem is it's been almost 2 months and I keep feeling worse and worse. I feel like I'm living in a fog, but severely dizzy at the same time. Appointment is finally coming up in 5 days but I'm really anxious. Scared I'll have an adrenal crisis or cardiac problem or SOMETHING just before seeing the dr. I guess my question is, what should I be looking out for if things start going south? And I know this is probably impossible to answer, but will I be okay? I feel so sick I can't even imagine what it was like to not feel this way, and my cognitive functioning is so diminished it's terrifying... :( thanks.

The potassium comment is for crisis. If you know when you have a crisis that you SPIKE in K or drop is important. Most will spike. You don't want to add K when you don't need it as that is not a good idea. Na is fine though.

I am a dropper in K. Some do.

If you crave salt, it is a huge hint from your body!

Oh. I've been drinking a lot of coconut water and Gatorade because of the diarrhea, and last I checked my potassium was fine, so maybe I should lay off of that stuff. But all this would explain why I've been craving salty foods (like fast food and stuff)! Thanks, and will do :)

Try salt. If something salty - salty food or salty drinks - makes you feel better - then there is a good chance it is your adrenals acting up.

AI is a salt wasting disease. You have to add salt as your body cannot hold it. Try to eat more salty stuff - and post back.

Chips, ramen, olives, pickles, bouillon, pretzels,...

Unless you know your tests, avoid potassium - if you know you need potassium though go for tomato juice and gatorade.
