Mild Cognitive Impairment

Hi All, this is the first time I've been to this forum.  I've been a member of the MS forum since 2007.  My husband, who is 55, today, was just diagnosed with Mild cognitive impairment.  I, of course, did the google search when I got home and I am really scared.

My husband's mother had alzheimer's and he reminds me so much of how she acted 2 or 3 years before her formal diagnosis.

The literature I read was from the Mayo Clinic, and it states that 50% of people diagnosed with this eventually progress to Alzheimer's within 5 years.

Just wondered if anyone knew anything about this.

Thanks,
doni

Thanks margypops, I'm just scared to death and have googled everything I can find on this.  I did read one article that said that if a neuro suspects alzheimer's, that MCI is a preclinical diagnosis of it.  Probably need to quit reading.

I went to the dr forum, but it didn't have the "post a question" bar so that I could ask my question.

Thanks again,
doni

Happy Birthday to your husband , I have a small amount of knowledge about this ,my Mom had the same , she started off with mild impairment, it did progress I think hers was longer than 5 years though, perhaps it is the kind of Dementia.Others here may be able to help more, we also have an expert/Doctor forum .You may want to also check out a new drug called Remba'  it is in the 3rd year of trials at Aberdeen Uni  it has been shown to be very exciting with possibilities of being able to actually improve folks with Alzheimers so google that .
