Kitten Injury...
Hi,
My 2+month old kitten, Totu, came under a heavy carrom board 4 days ago. He wasnt at all completely under it, Just part of his tail, a paw and his nose was touching the board. There was lot of bleeding(nose/mouth) and he was barely conscious when i found him. We rushed him to the vet, where the vet just injected a painkiller and asked us to wait and watch. Till the evening he just slept.His breathing was normal and he pee-d and litterd as well...Again in the evening we took him there, where again he was injected pain killer and some "neuro tonic". They suspected internal head injury. The next day he did show some improvement, he opened his eyes briefly and got his head up. and reacted well to the pain, due to the injection. I started feeding him through a filler and he's consuming small quantities of milk regularly.The next day too there was some improvement, but he pee-d and litterd only once. The vet asked us to wait and observe and told its unnecessary to come again and that he would be fine in due course of time.
Yesterday i took him to another vet, where he said it could be spinal cord injury as my baby didnt react when the vet pressed his tail. He injected something in his spine and asked me to return in 3 days. Its been 48 hours since he removed any waste from is body. Is it ok??? He did however try to get up briefly. Otherwise he's just in deep sleep. His body temp is gradually getting normal.
Please advice, he's gonna be alright right??? what extra care can i take to ensure that he does???
what abt the wastes removal, should i see the vet again?? Its too heart breaking to see my baby just lie like that... :(

Did either vet do X-Rays of his spine, or give him mannitol, or other medications and fluids by IV? I think it best to have your kitten be seen by a veterinary neurologist, or internist if you can afford it. At the very least your kitten should be on daily steroids to reduce the inflammation in his nervous system, of course I am not there to do a physical exam, and the vets you have already taken him to may feel that they have done all that they can. I hope that we have a happy outcome for your little guy! Please let us know how it goes!
am so sorry, i know your heart is broken, but its for the best ,your lil one will not suffer anymore hes at rest now. God bless you .

Its with great grief that i write this.
I found Totu dead yesterday morning, when i went to feed him. :'(
There was nothing suspicious the night before though, just that he dint feed much and he meowed too.......

Oh ,and i forgot to mention there is sensation in all his limb and tail, though the hind limb and tail showed very little response, there was movement and sensation to pain all the same........
The doctor just termed reflexes as"sluggish"......and even said there could be "partial paraplegia"
i really hope that's a good sign that there is sensation......

Well ...... he;s still the same even today,
I have consulted two more vets till now.......
One suggested "mercy killing"
The other took an x ray and concluded that there is no skeletal injury, so its to do with the nervous system, possibly spine!
He followed the same procedure(injected defomatin!??!? in his spine) as my second vet, but since this has a college as well, my baby was an experiment here, they shaved his back partially just to demonstrate to the students where in the spine the injection is given!! too sad!!...... and asked me to keep him still, which shouldnt at all be hard coz he's still as drowsy as he was a week back........
The force feeding is continuing, at more frequent intervals.
This vet said IV is not a good option as the nerves are hard to find and maybe collapsed?!?!??!
Well my prayers continue ...... but the trauma for me is getting unbearable...... not to say what my li'l one is going through!! with all those check ups and injections! :(

am so sorry ,it breaks my heart reading you mail, hang in there with your baby , be strong and hold and love him, they say when you are knocked out you can still hear, so let your baby know your there . i will pray for him and you . Barbara
