Bright Spot with Dark Corona in Iris of Eye

My cat has developed an odd spot in the far corner of one of his eyes.  It seems a bit brighter yellow than his normal eye color and has a dark corona around the side of the spot the iris side.  I can find articles about dark spots, but nothing about bright spots.  I need some help for my beautiful boy!!!  He is not displaying any discomfort or vision issues and he is active and healthy.  The picture on my profile is of the eye in issue.

If the spot is on the iris, the colored part inside the eye which surrounds the pupil, it may be a nevus, a benign pigmented spot. Ont he other hand it could also be melanoma which is a form of cancer of pigment cells. As has Dr Coyner, I recommend seeing a boarded ophthalmologist.

I recommend evaluation by a veterinary ophthalmologist (www.acvo.org). This may be bullous keratopathy, which is a defect in the cornea that can progress to ulceration and rupture if untreated.
