I had surgery on my ankle about a week ago and have been on bedrest since then. My dog Lola has been acting strange toward me, She is usually very affectionate and lays right near me and at night she sleeps by my side. She is not doing that..she has become very distant. I would like to know why???

Dear cder62,

As Dr. Humphrey responded elsewhere, changes in your behavior and habits, especially as dramatic as with an illness, will change your pets habits and behavior. Also if you have a hard cast, perhaps the noise of it hitting the floor, your cane if you have one, your changed gate or the odor of the bandage or cast have affected your dog.

Once you get back to normal, it is likwely your dog will too.
