Less Painful way to take Humira

Hello everyone, hope this posts finds you all well. I was hoping someone might have a trick to make taking the humira injector pen any less painful. I'm actually hoping I can talk my doctor into letting me get it in vial form so I can fill my own syringe and take it the same as I do the methotrexate. But that pen, its a killer. I always let it warm up from the fridge first is this a mistake maybe? Does it just burn naturally or does the injector pen make it worse? Any thoughts and ideas are appriciated. Thank you XO

I use the pre-filled syringes and I find that it burns but it gets better with experience. Sometimes I have a little bruise, sometines I don´t. I agree that it hurts much more than MTX. Pen or syringe, Humira burns.

I don´t let the syringe warm very much, but I do ice the injection site to match the temperatures better. And with the syringe if it starts to hurt I can just wait a few seconds and then continue.

I still have one pen left but after that I'm going to give the syringe a try, I'm a little scared of the burning but is has to be beter then the burning and the stupid pen jaming into my skin at 1,000 miles an hour! lol Thanks to everyone for their info and words of encouragment Peace

I take the Humira Pen myself. I let it warm for ½ hour before injecting it. I also inject myself in the belly. Never done the legs (That must hurt). I actually think it's painless. I don't get any bruise nor redness. Works great for me.

That is a really great idea, I can't believe I never thought of it. Thank you so much and tell your husband I hope he feels better. Have a great day.

My husband uses the Humira pen, too, and he says that taking it out of the fridge for a while before injecting helps to make it not hurt as much.  He usually lets it sit out for about 20 minutes, and during this time, he puts an ice pack on his leg to numb the area where he is going to do the injection.  I've noticed that the times when he didn't use the ice pack first, he would get a bruise and some swelling at the injection site, and he doesn't seem to when he uses the ice pack first.  He says the ice pack really helps, so you might want to try it.  I hope this helps!
