My son was diagnosed with sensory integration disorder at 4 and was much like your child. Sensory is a developmental delay and kids with autism can have it on top of autism or sensory can be all on its own as it is with my son.
Kids with sensory may have social skills issues but are social. They will engage in pretend play ( a big one that many autistic kids do less of), They may flap, have quirks, spin or rock as part of their sensory needs. Etc.
my son is now 9 years old. We did occupational therapy and have a rich sensory diet of activities (mainly physical activity and behavior modifications) and he is now doing great. No intervention at school, no IEP, does well academically, in sports, music, has friends, etc. All be it, he's a quirky guy, but he functions really well due to early intervention.
so wonderful that you are doing early intervention too. And if you have a minute, read about sensory and see what you think. As your child gets a bit older, these things become more clear. good luck
Oh and his been talk alot more the words he knows but he tries to repeat what I say and if he wants to after me say up up up in tge sky 2or3 times he repeated me :)...autistic kids wouldnt be able to do that or be that social would they??again thank you for any coments ir answeres
Thanks I talk to his doctor about it and,he,says its normal for kids his age to act that way a since hid social he pretty much said is not autistic n he was been reapeaty all my little noises I make n we where play trowning the ball chase and peek a boo with each other and he had gd eye contact ...his speach terapist says hes fine but just for a piece of mind i shoud get him evaluated n thats what I am going to do
I wouldnt go to the extreme and assume autism. Definitely some sensory stimming going on but otherwise Id say its just developmental delays at the moment which Im guessing from your post hes getting therapy for. Talk to them because if anything he wilk need a psych eval by a child Dr.
