Is my back/neck problem aggreviated by anxiety?

Since I joined medhelp I have learned so much about my condition and more important realized how many people are dealing with similar conditions every day.
I have being evaluated by several specialists but as many of you, am still looking for answers.
One of the things that bother me the most now is the hand numbness.
It usually happens in the afternoon and get worst trough the evening. It bothers me to the point of making me very anxious.
But I take my xanax before going to bed and it goes away.I dont know if it goes away because of the xanax or because I get to go sleep and rest my back and neck.
Neurontin and Baclofen doesnt seem to do anything. Its so hard to explain that some of my friends think am a hypocondriac. Like the old say. What comes first the chicken or the egg? Other than anxiety I also have herniated disc in the neck.
Everything seems to get worst either when am going to work or when I have a very stressfull day at work. When am off at home yes I have some pain and some numbness but not that bad level. Its hard for me to separete both conditions. Eithe one takes me to the other.

Does the anxiety causes my back to strees out and pinch my nerves or do my hand numbness makes me anxious? Honestly, I cannot answer that.
But if any of you is going trough something similar let me know. Have a good day.

I am new to med help and I am so amazed at how many people have the same symptoms. I am 23 and I have Numbness and Tingling in my arms and legs that spreads to my face back and chest. It is very painful and I have been to may Dr's to try to get some answers but so far things keep coming back normal. I have had one Dr tell me to never come back for to see him for my pain. I have had it for almost a year and it is so very painful. What have the Dr's said to you?

I also take xanax, and have many strange sensations with L5 S1 issues.  I think it is a visious circle.  Aniexty comes from the strange sensations, and fear of what they are, and then pain begets pain and weakness. It seems like I am always on a merry go round!!  I take the same meds as you, and they don't help.  I am at my wit's end!  Good luck, Sweetpotatoe57

Trust me you are not alone in this condition. I feel all kids of different sensations that I can say scare me too. I have had an anxiety condition for many, many years but I have dealt witrh that. I too take a Xanax sometomes at night just to get a decent sleep. Be careful with those because if you take them every night on a night you  do not take one you will be more anxious and proabably not be able to sleep. I found that out the hard way. They also have an anxiety forum here that is pretty good too. My hands and arms usually tingle at night when I am trying to sleep and I know that has to do with the way I am laying. I think with you it is proabaly a combination of both. Just being up and moving through out the day probaly gets your neck tight and then it just starts the cycle. Neck issues will give you all kinds of problems with your arms and hands, and then you get anxious and that brings on the weird felings that go with that. You are not alone in what you are feeling.
Take care of yourself.
