Serious back issue(s) CAT scan inside

27 year old male


I always had some back issues but they didn't bother me that much. When my back used to give me trouble I had difficulty leaning forward and it'd be hard to get back up. I couldn't put on my shoes; taking my back off the floor  would always hurt (lower back).  I can't raise my legs off the floor while laying down and have a hard time raising my knees also. I have pectus excavatum and it was speculated I could have Marfan syndrome at the age of 3-6, but I believe it was ruled out at the time.

Sounds like you could site message Philnoir for some help (he might have enabled email alerts on receipt of a fresh site message).

Images and backs are often poorly correlated unless there's a clear cut syndrome going on.  

Somewhat vague symptoms are often better handled through destressing, improved posture, improved back support (even a new bed can work miracles), activity (such as walking), and stretching routines (preferrably as suggested by a physiotherapist or chiropractor).

I suppose you might scan the reports and use OCR on the scanned files (might be able to OCR the document files directly--I've not tried that) to create a text file in that language, then use Google to translate the terms.  

Translation works poorly on technical terms, but then, many scientific terms are unchanged between languages.

The report isnt in English, which would make translating some terms quite troublesome

Sorry - I doubt anyone of this forum is skilled in reading raw CAT scans. There are several of us that can help you understand the summary, terms and DX (diagnosis). If you have those please share and I'll help.

Philnoir may be able to read the raw CAT scans. He's been absent for awhile but I do believe he'll return soon.

Once your back is notably painful, your muscles are likely in spasm pulling at your vertebrae and altering the line of your spine, posture etc.  I see the main objective as avoiding episodes of back pain in the first place (through good posture, good support, stretching exercises, and a decent level of activity such as walking).  I gather your back's in pain so the below suggestions are more for when it's recovered but ought to be useful just now:

(1) Do you have a video camera, or camera/cellphone camera with a timer?  if so, I suggest you strip to your underwear and take video or several photos from the side of yourself standing; and then from the back (though that's likely less useful)

The point of the above exercise is for you to see if your posture looks:  tense (rigidly straight), or relaxed and evenly upright with a modest and expected curve in your back  Posture can make a Huge difference in back comfort, endurance and so many other things.

(2) Glad to hear that the lumbar support concepts helps a little when you have pain.  But, the MAIN value is in using it all the time (or whenever manageable) to Prevent your back from being stressed to the point of it then becoming painful.  Perhaps consider investing in an Obus Forme to add to your favourite chair, too if you suspect its back support is poor going, those have an add-on lumbar support cushion which I find too thick, and I trim them down a fair bit to make them comfy.  

My back's in great shape now (I used to get great value out of Obus Formes, haven't felt a need for one for five years).  Two or three times a week I follow a stretching routine that helps loosen my back up, sometimes I'll skip a few weeks, sometimes I'll do it daily (depends on how tense my back generally feels).  My earlier back pain episodes were so debillitating, I still have some muscle relaxant on hand, just in case (for emergencies), but haven't touched those except in very mild and momentary doses a few times up to a few years ago.

I feel a lot of pressure on my lower back just by standing. And it feels like it could snap.

I dont have a lot of constant back pain. Just when I try to do certain movements.Having added lumbar support does help a little when I have some pain

Do you have back pain?  Does having added lumbar support (eg. a small rolled up towel behind your lower back), help at all with your pain?
