Sounds like something is pressing on a nerve or nerves, I had a medial branch nerve block when I experienced similar pain and the nerve block stopped the pain and I have been pain free in that area for a few years now... you should check into it...
A burning sensation is often a nerve getting pinched. There are many things that could do this. I would see a doctor and get an X-ray and an MRI. Good luck!!!!
What occurred prior to this, did you have a accident? You most likely have some nerve damage going on in your cervical area, sounds like around C5-C7. I also have frequent muscle spasms above scapula to LT side neck w/ pinched nerve. An MRI shown focal disc herniation at C2/3 w/ retrolethesis and disc bulges in all other C spine areas. I alo have diffuse bulging disc at L4/5 and L5/S1 impinging on nerve. My problems occurred after a trip/fall accident and after 9 months of PT and trigger point shots ( Which decrease the pain significantly but it returns w/i several days). You need a MRI and EMG thereafter, X-ray only show bone but the other's show soft tissue. Make sure you obtain a skillful patient-oriented doctor. It's appearing to me Doctor's don't treat/interact w/their patients the way they used to. This PAIN is not a figment of our imagination and one body part can affect others. I was active, was a business manager before all these physical ailments. DO IT NOW before you start having pain ( from pressure put on other vertebre) in your lumbar spine.
