Herniated C5/C6 disc

This is not about back problems, instead, this is about neck issues.  Back in September 2006 I slipped on a patch of ice and hit my face on a curb while my husband and I were carrying in a couch to our new home.  I broke by right eye-socket and nasal cavity and had a Severe Concussion!!  I guess I tried to stop the fall using my right arm/hand.  My husband rushed me into the hospital, (I have just started getting memories of this back)...I was un-conscious for approx. 3 1/2 hours.  The hospital was so concerned with my facial injuries that they paid no attention to my neck.  When I woke up the next morning, my right arm was black, blue and purple and extremely sore.  I went into see my family Dr. about a week later due to the pain and loss of strength in my right arm, I also could only raise my right arm/shoulder just past the elbow.  I had an MRI performed at the time and due to the inflammation (this is what the Dr said) he could not see any injury.  He sent me to Physical Therapy for 3 months which only made the pain worse. He then sent me into a Chriopractor which seemed to make the pain much worse.  After nearly 2 years and still no relief, I was sent into an orthopaedic surgeon who did an MRI and X-Rays and wanted to start out with a Cortizone injection into my right shoulder (since nothing was ever done like that) which really made the pain, tingling and weakness more apparent.  The Orthopaedic Surgeon then sent me to a Physitrist within his group who wanted me to go in and have another MRI done and scheduled me for the 1st of 3 Cervial Epidural Procedures.  I had my first one yesterday and believe it or not, before it was started I was FINALLY given an  answer to the pain I have been having for nearly 2 years...I have a Herniated C5/C6 disc in my neck.  My big question is....if these injections do not work, what type of surgery would I have to have done, does it work and how long can I expect to be down and out?    Any help to these questions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

if i was u i would get a second opinion. i had severe neck, shoulder and arm pain. lost the stenght in my arm. it was almost completly numb.
went to PT for a few months , the chriopractor, took pain meds nothing helped. then after 7 months of this i got a MRI done and my orthopaedic surgeon  said i had a herniated disc C5/C6 in my neck and that i would have  to have a spinal fusion done.
i had my op 5 months ago , no more sore neck, shoulder or arm pain except a little stab in my arm once in a while. it was the best thing i ever done. i hope u get the help u need.

I just  had neck surgery today, so far it was well worth it, have  been suffering since end of  january, Ihad  a herniated disk  c-5 c-6  and tried   traction and  1 injection  before   deciding    for  surgery. the traction  didnt  help any  the  injection  gave me  my first  nights  sleep after 5 days in bad  pain at  night and   maybe  gettin 3  hrs   sleep usually  in  early morning several  nights  up all night.  The  injection was well worth it  even  though  it didnt last  it  made  my  wait   till the surgery much less  painful.   I thought  they might give  me  a 2nd  one  but   the surgeon  said i had a huge  herniated disk and with the  lenght  of  time already and  hurting   when  i laughed  or coughed and the shoulder  pain  he said  it was  better to   get  it done. Have  just  a little   neck  strain  on  my  right side like when  u do a set up kinda  strain  but  nothing  bad  and   throat is just  a little  sore, after reading  all the horror  stories about   injections and   surgery   i was really shocked , my injection they  gave me  versa a amnesia kinda   drug  it was great  i woke  up and wife said i was  done.    Milkshakes  feel  really  great  on throat and  a few  cough  drops work   good too,  overall so far  it  looks  real  good  no pain  in left side at all  and  the right  muscle  strain  i think  they  just  roughed me up a little  when  i was  out lol.
