I got my MRI results today, but I'm on gaberpentin (just started) and didn't take it all in, I have a copy can anyone give me an idea of the outcome ? minor issue or a worry.
Me: problems started 9 months ago, came on slowly no idea what I did, lower back pain then scaticia with numbness and altered sensation. Had a caudal epidural in July, it made my symptoms seem worse (although some improvement in leg) and altered sensation in buttock area, I now cannot sit on a hard seat. I have neuropathic pain (heaviness across / going up upper back and stretching in neck and a feeling of pressure. I have started gabapentin and this is helping the neuorpathic pain. Sitting is the biggest issue and if I walk too far I 'loose speed, and have to walk slowly. I get very tired.
MRI Scan: Mechanical left lateral recess stenosis due to a left paracentral disc extrusion at L5 S1 with impingement of the traversing S1 nerve root. Annual disc bulge at L4-L5.
The doctor has told me to try medication for 1 month, then try another epidural, then surgery. This is based on leg symptoms, when I asked him about the back / seat pain he said I might always have it.
Appreciate your thoughts and any expalinations about the scan as I am not sure I understand
