Hi ruthie!
The first thing to do is to make the home environment safe for your mother. Keep the furniture such that she can move around them smoothly. She should use a walker or a walking stick to support herself. Also, some one should visit her on and off during the day and check on her. Her blood pressure and blood sugar should be under control (if she suffers from this).
Other than this, she can do as much activity as is possible without causing pain. Ask her doctor whether wearing a lumbo-sacral brace will help her. She should use a well-padded seat or air tubes when sitting. Avoid long periods of sitting in one posture. Anti inflammatory drugs, pain killers, local analgesic creams all help to some extent. Some benefit by local steroid injection at the site of the pain. Please discuss her management in detail with her treating doctor. Hope this helps. Take care!
The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
Hi ruthie681,
I think you should have your daughter bring you to your family doctor
for a check up as this is your second fall. I would ask your family doctor
if you should use a donut cushion and what other suggestions your docto
can give you. I would not recommend any exercises at this point. I hope
my suggestions have been helpful. Eve
