TMJ basically is tightening of the muscles around the face. It can affect the eyes, ears, jaw, sinus, headaches, muscle aches around the face, neck, shoulder, back and even chest. If you are only getting slight pain when eating you have got it quite early. How far can you open your mouth. Only a trained dentist can tell you, they will probably make a splint for your mouth to help relieve any muscle tension. Do you clench or grind your teeth?
my dentist told me that I have TMJ. The problem I have is the first bite of food I put in my mouth causes SEVERE pain in joints of my jaw. This pain is excrutiating at first, I have to grab my jaws just to be able to handle the pain. It doesnt last long, maybe about 10 seconds. The dentist told me it was caused from my jaw being out of line, having so many missing back teeth. She said I could have surgery, where they would break my jaw and realign it. Whatever!! No one is breaking my jaw. I just live with it unfortunatly.
