When I was thirteen, I had a scoliosis operation done to fix the big right curve. My back looked like an S,but my lower back wasn't as bad to have a surgery. I experienced slight breathing difficulties beforehand, and everything stopped after my scoliosis surgery. I was limited to two pounds the following year. In high school, I had someone provided by my school to help me carry my backpack. My mother believed that this slowed me down and didn't help me become independent since they would always baby me. By the end of high school, I was carrying my own backpack since it wasn't heavy, and I started commuting by myself again, a freedom I have waited for four years. However, I was worried that later on this will affect me in the future. As a college student, I had to carry a lot of books and still do as the amount of work increases. I'm not sure if this will affect me because I've heard stories of screws getting unscrewed and having to do another procedure to damage them. I am a very active person who loves to walk, and I have only ever experienced a bit of lower back pain. Of course, my doctor has informed me of this so I believe that it's normal. I'm afraid that carrying a heavier backpack will lead to more serious issues and I know that I'm not willing to pay for another surgery.
