Brian you and Runningmom have answered this post very well!
Doctors or anyone other than ourselves can be held responsible for our doings.
Mytime I do hope you take the good advice given....there is help and a good place to start is on the substance abuse forum where there are many others to talk to and get some encouragement.....good luck to you!
Runningmom...can you not see a pain management doctor to prescribe you some medication? I dn't understand why you have to suffer chronic pain and no one will prescribe?
I hope for you that you can find someone...

You may want to check out the substance abuse forum here on medhelp. There are some wonderful people there that will not judge and help you through your addiction. I have been a member of that forum for a few months because although I suffer from chronic pain there are times I took more than what I was prescribed. Am I a addict? Not sure. Am I dependent? For sure. Luckily with the support of that forum I am currently only taking 2 norcos a day and so far I'm able to deal with my pain with the help of a few different non narcotic meds. I have seen the exact same question you asked on the substance abuse forum. The first step is too admitting you have a problem. There are other addicts that once felt the way you do by blaming their doctor but realized it came down to them. When you go to a doctor the reason is to be treated. Can I ask you a question? If you went to your doctor complaining of pain and he didn't prescribed you the pain meds, would you still want to sue for feeling like your condition was not treated? The last thing a doctor wants for someone is for them to get addicted to pills. With you being a addict you know about the risks and if you were experiencing pain the first thing you should have told the doctor is that you do not want anything narcotic. There are many other meds out there that could help. I do have to agree with RunningMom....it is you that needs to take the blame. You can not blame your doctor. If you tried talking to a lawyer they wouldn't even consider  taking the case. If someone that works at a liquor store knows you are a alcoholic does that mean you could sue them for selling you beer? Not gonna happen.
If you feel like you should be able to sue please ask the question over on the substance abuse forum. You will get the same results here as even people who are addicted know they did it to themselves. It may have taken a eyeopener for them to realize this but once they did they were able to move on with their life and work on their addiction. Every prescription comes with all kinds of reading material. It is there for a reason. It is to read so you know the risks about the medication such as it being habit forming. It is the doctors responsibility to treat the pain but is our responsibility to educate ourself about the medication.
Please check out the other forum so you can get the help and support you need while fighting addiction. There are so many wonderful and caring people that will do everything they can to help you with your journey. Best of luck!

This is completely your fault for accepting the mediciations.  You asked for them knowingly and you now you need own up for what you have done.

I'm sorry, I suffer with severe chronic pain and doctors are afraid to treat me for pain due to people abusing medications.  I've never in my life absued anything and now I need to live in sheer pain due to people like this.  This is extremely unfair for me.  I'm unable to care for my children and household due to this sheer constant chronic pain.  I have a spinal cord nerve injury which is permanent.  I'm only 35 years old(not much older then you are) and I will have to suffer with this for the rest of my life.  I have proof I'm in pain and the doctors are still afraid to prescribe the right medications.  This makes me very angry as I'm the one here suffering.  Severe chronic pain is the most difficult thing to deal with.  Not only does it effect me, it effects my children and husband.  My children miss out of everything because I'm stuck in bed or on the couch unable to move.  It breaks my heart not to be able to see my childrens games, school activities or choir concerts.  They think I'm cheating them out of life.

You didn't have to fill the script, you could of torn it up and went to a new doctor and asked for something non narcotic.  You need to take responsibility for your own actions.  The doctor did not put a gun to your head and tell you to take these medications.  Why are you so selfish and want to sue the doctors for something you did?  You are the one who told him you needed the Norco.  You are the one who did this, not the doctor prescribing.  Please get the help you need and stop blaming others for what you have done.  There are programs out there to help you.

I don't see how you could sue. He may have prescribed them but you were the one that took the script to the pharmacy. If you went to him complaining of pain what did you expect? You could have asked for something non narcotic. All he was doing was treating you. If are a addict and can handle the pain without them I would get rid of them asap. I'm sure you know how difficult it can be to get off of them and don't want to go down that road again. If you do need them for pain just do your best to take them only as prescribed and only as needed. I don't mean to sound harsh but I wouldn't waste the time talking to a lawyer. If everyone tried to sue for addiction it would be impossible for people that suffer from pain to get pain medication as doctors would be to worried to prescribe them.
I wish you nothing but the best!
