mid back pain and numbness

I've been having pain between shoulder blades, mid back for over a month now. It feels like something is out of place.  I've started seeing a chiropractor but after about 8 visits, its not any better.  It starts when I walk for a bit, do dishes or iron clothes.  Does not bother me sleeping.  Any suggestions appreciated.

Since your disc problem's in the neck, that's probably the source of your shoulder blade pain, you're lucky you can get rid of yours. Most of us that have neck problems have suffered from this at one time or another. Doing things with my arms liked you described aggravates my pain too.

I agree that subluxtions do cause problems, but Chiropractors think everything is related to improper alignment, and its not. Stretching and strengthening muscles in a given area is key to getting rid of this type of pain.

I've used Chiropractors in the past and I know people that swear by them but, I would never let one touch my neck, I've had neck surgery and I need to have another one, so our situations are different. But cervical manipulation is very dangerous, statistically the number of people injured probably isn't that large, but when someone is injured its catastrophic. Its just not worth it, Its too risky.

If you're interested, do a search on the internet for "Dangers of neck manipulation"

Thanks so much.  I'll check into the dangers of neck manipulation and also strengthening the muscles in that area.

Yes, there is a disc problem in the neck.  Apparently between 2 discs there is no cushioning and a small piece of the one disc is broken off (very small).  But my neck actually feels okay.  When I walk for a bit it starts to hurt just below the shoulder blades (right about where the bra sits).  If I sit for awhile it goes away.  Same happens if I do anything where I'm standing and doing anything like ironing or washing dishes.
Actually she has adjusted my neck.  She assures me I need it and that nothing will happen.  Do you not agree that sublaxations will cause problems?  What is your opinion on that?
Thanks

The reason I asked about neck problems is because that area often refers pain to the shoulder blade area.  Is your disc problem is there?

Physical Therapy tends to focus on stretching  and strengthening the muscles in a problem area. As opposed to Chiropractors who are generally more concerned about subluxtions and proper spinal alignment. I hope your not letting this one adjust your neck, it can be dangerous.

I am wondering if I can prevent further damage by making the muscles supporting my neck as strong as possible.

She had xrays taken and I do have a problem in my neck which I knew about. Childhood problem.  I do have osteoporosis (mild) in back but also disc out of place which she is trying hard to get back in place?  In your opinion, what can the physical therapist do differently?

Thanks

What did the Chiropractor think was the cause? There are a lot of things that can cause shoulder blade pain, but the numbness would indicate a neurological problem. Do you have any neck, shoulder or arm pain to go along with this?

I think you would really benefit from seeing a good Physical Therapist.
