Sudden back pain, now can barely move!

Hi all,

Yesterday morning I was getting ready for work, bent down to pick up my bag and ended up with the most almighty lower back pain. I didn't feel anything ripping/tearing, but the pain was excruciating and I could barely move. Spoke to my GP on the phone, and he told me to take cocodamol for a few days to see how things go (he did suggest ibuprofen too, but I can't take it due to reflux issues).

Today I'm in absolute agony. The painkillers don't seem to be doing anything, and it's impossible to get comfortable, even lying down. The pain is in the centre of my lower back, just above my buttocks. Does anyone have any idea what it could be, or ways in which I can alleviate the pain and make myself more mobile till I can see a doctor? Thanks.

Hello,
I think you need any natural orthopedic doctors who can massage your back muscles...

try heat and/cold if you can tolerate it. Try different ways of resting for example: I cannot ever lay flat in a bed. I learned early on that I have to lay on my side at a 90 degree angle, on a couch with pile of pillows. After awhile I need to change sides. Then I may have to get up and walk around the house...and repeat.

If you can tolerate a 'cocktail' of  meds: anti-inflammatory-muscle relaxer-pain med..these three taken together used to knock out the pain in a day or two.

good luck I hope it helps. I will pray that this is just a short term issue for you.

Hello I was searching for something else and came across your post.
To help yourself, you can try ice, and elevate  your legs.  Think of what your body would look like if you were on the floor with your legs in a chair.
I used to have this pain and laying on the floor with legs up on chair was the only thing to help me.
Ice, advil, rest was about all I could do.
As it improves you could try a combination of heat and ice.
I am not a doctor just a fellow back pain sufferer and wanted to try to help you.
Hang in there
