Anyone have excisional breast biopsy using blue dye alone w/o the fine wire?

I'm scheduled for an excisional breast biopsy for suspicious microcalcifications. The surgeon doing the procedure however only uses blue dye. After the hollow needle is placed as a guide, the radiologist will only inject methylene blue dye to pinpoint the location. There is no fine wire (with hook at the end) to be inserted.

Is this normal? And more importantly, will this do the job? I have been reading up a lot on excisional biopsies and I always see that the fine wire method is used instead of the blue dye. I have heard where some surgeons use a fine wire PLUS the blue dye but never just the blue dye alone. Has anyone here ever have a biopsy with just blue dye alone? I'm really worried.

Dear Knot:  Different surgeons have different opinions and techniques.  You have a couple of options.  Ask your surgeon to explain his technique to you.  If you are still uncomfortable, get a second opinion from another surgeon. The important part is that the surgeon is able to localize and remove the area of mammographic concern so that it can be evaluated by the pathologist.
