skin burning type pain after mastectomy

I had a bilateral mastectomy on October 20th.  I am healing okay and not to uncomfortable.  However, the surface of my skin where my breast tissue was removed gets very sore.  It feels like a sunburn type pain that gets worse when my clothes touch my skin.  Is there a cream I can put on to ease this pain?

Thanks for any advice, Jill

On 8/29/05 I had a mastectomy of my right breast.  I too had a burning sensation on my breast and was worried.  It did go away but took several weeks.  The area, although numb to the touch, did burn.  It was weird.  It was uncomfortable even to have clothing touch it.  I used to hold my seatbelt away from the breast.  Now I am doing great and going to have my other breast lifted on 12/8/05.

I hope this helps you.

Dear Jill:  We would not recommend any cream without knowing the cause for the discomfort.  You should have a discussion with your surgeon and see if he/she can shed any light on the discomfort for you.
