Papilloma

My daughter is 17 years old, has had a dark discharge from her right breast.  Had an ultrasound done at the breast clinic and the doctor there said it looked like a papilloma.  She is scheduled to see a surgeon next week.  Isn't this unusual for such a young person?  The doctor at the breast clinic was not too concerned about it being cancerous.  Should I be concerned and what causes this?  Thank you!

I just reread your post on the other thread, and realized the lump wasn't under your arm but in your breast.  Still, try not to jump to conclusions and get it checked out ASAP, as I'm sure you will.

LCIS is precancer. It's cancer of the lobular isn't it? That  has not spread yet. When is your appointment with your surgeon? I would call your doctors office back for an explanation of what LCIS is because I may be wrong. I am not doctor. And please get in to see your surgeon. I picked up on a post that doesn't look like anyone is using. Please let us know what you find out.

Thanks, yes, it is a precancerous condition, and I have found out that they often recommend an excisional biopsy after this dx, because in 7 to 17% of the cases, they will find DCIS upon re-examination of the area.  But, they might not choose to do that with me, I will only know after I talk with the surgeon.  I have requested a copy of the path. report as well.

So, how are you doing?  I read about your new finding.  Try not to freak, it might just be a lymph node that's enlarged because your body is fighting off something.  Especially having small kids around, they tend to bring things home.  I know it's hard to be optomistic after what you have just been through, and to find this on your birthday of all times is hard.  Take it one day at a time.

Darhma, are you out there?  How did your mammogram turn out?

I would pick up a copy of the pathology report also.

Dear Dupell:  A papilloma is a benign (non cancerous) growth in the ducts of the breast (papillomas can occur in other places, too. ) They are a common cause of bleeding from the nipple. Papillomas are not harmful. The important thing about papillomas is to be certain that they are papillomas.  A referral to a surgeon is appropriate.
