papilloma

I have intrasductal papilloma. The general surgeon specializes in breast cancer. She said I also have a papilloma on my nipple too. She was recommended to redue the mammogram/ultrasound in six months, but said she will not. She said she wants to see me in six months unless I have more blood come out of my breast or notice any other changes. I have periodic shooting pain in that breast now.
Is this reasonable to wait? From everythng I have read, you cannot tell if a papilloma is cancerous or benign by mammogram or ultrasound alone, but that it needs to be biopsied. Waiting six months not knowing seems odd to me. What do you think?

Dear LisaG:  How was the papilloma diagnosed? Usually it involves a biopsy - otherwise it is just a guess - albeit educated - based on the symptoms you are having and perceived risk factors.  A papilloma is generally benign - as long as you know it's a papilloma.

If the diagnosis is based on the situation, but not on an actual biopsy, it is still a well-educated guess. If it's based on tissue that was removed and examined, then it's accurate. I personally would not be comfortable with a presumptive diagnosis as opposed to a definitive one based on biopsy.

I agree...I get this uneasy feeling that she is guessing and making me wait. I think I will call her and ask for a biopsy. Thank you for your input!!
