Christ's Death

I'm looking for people who know the Bible very well. I'm a new Christian and I was talking with some atheists about Christ's death. They insist Christ committed suicide. I know better and I am trying to prove to them through scriptures that he was murdered. I find it strange that people who say they don't believe in God would make such a claim. I would really like to walk away from the conversation completely, but a few non believers are listening to the discussion when it comes up. I will admit I get angry inside when I talk with these people. I never know if they truly want to learn or if they are just trying to make me doubt what I believe in. Could any believers help me? Also, will you pray for me concerning my attitude? I feel bad that I get angry even though they don't know it. I want to have more compassion, but right now I don't feel that. I'm not online often and when I am it's usually in the afternoon. I will try to check in more often now. Any help would be wonderful.

Well we don't have to bash them over the head for not believing what we say but we do need to tell them truth plain and simple. The amount of times I've been bashed and hated is ridiculous but hey God's word is fire in my heart and I go on even when I'm hated. So don't get angry, just go your way and live if possible, peaceably with all men.

Show what real Christianity is about by choosing your words carefully and living out the principals of Christianity. Sometimes this makes people more ready to hear you. Sometimes how a Christian acted in the past (hypocritical) makes unbelievers, atheists turn off Christianity. So by living what you believe, it can show the opposite.

They claim not to believe in God. Deep inside I know atheist do or they wouldn't work so hard to destroy God's word. I pointed that out to them, but they claim it's their duty to help brainwashed people. They see Christians as mentally ill. They love to insult people right to their face. I have to stay away from them as much as possible because I get angry. I have angered them too. I agree with you in the scripture verse you chose and I will keep my distance from them. It does help to know other Christians feel the same way. I needed some back up support. Thank you and God bless you too.

Christ prophesied many things during his lifetime. He also performed miracles. Have they forgotten he was/is the Son of God?
You were not the one to be made to look like a fool. They were. Shame on them.

The bible says to not cast our pearls before swine or they will trample them. I think these clods just trampled your pearls. In these cases I do think it's best to just step back and pray. Sounds like you did well!
May God bless you.

First off, thanks to both of you for your replies. I needed some good Christian advise and knowledge and I got it. tbabi20 - you explained in full exactly what I am dealing with. It does wear on me because I wanted to help these people so much. I made the mistake of believing if I could show them the truth they would surely see it. I know now they were having fun at my expense. Not that my pride has been hurt, but my heart has been. Yes, they made a complete fool of me because I don't know the Bible as well as you ladies do. I have to study to find some of the answers for them, but I always found what I didn't know. They love the fact that I cannot give a quick answer in some cases. They never accept what I show them anyway. Like you said, we go around and around. I believe they want me to lose my temper. I don't but inside I feel angry. That alone makes me want to walk away. April2 - The atheists use the fact that Christ knew he was going to die as their proof Christ committed suicide. They say because he knew and went along with his mission he brought about his own death. Therefore suicide. It makes me sick to even type these words because we know Christ gave his life, but did not commit suicide. Some how in their minds they believe he did. I've explained to them many times how Christ was murdered for his cause, but they never accept that. At the moment I am trying to avoid any conversations about God with them. I pray for them but I don't feel I am the person who can help them. That makes me feel guilty. I am dealing with the guilt and the blessings. The blessings come from a deeper walk with God as he helps me study his word and learn. I have learned more in the search to help the non believers. I didn't think about that when this all began. I see God helping me and convicting me at the same time. The conviction because of my anger. I've had a lot of that. I'm praying that the anger will leave me. My excuse for it was that I felt I was kind of defending God. I realize he doesn't need me to do that. So I'm working on myself. It means a lot to me that both of you have helped. I will check back, but I am having computer problems. Until I get back, thanks for your help. You have been apart of my growth and my blessing.

If your atheist friends would read the bible (which is a historical book) there are many accounts, over and over of prophecies concerning Jesus' birth, miracles, being betrayed for 30 pieces of silver, going to trial, being charged unfairly for blasphemy (for claiming to be the Christ), being whipped, crucified, buried in a tomb offered by
Joseph of Arimathea, who owned the tomb and probably originally meant for it to be used by him. After His resurection He is seen first by His disciples, then others before acending to Heaven.

Jesus made twelve appearances after his resurrection:

1. His first appearance was to Mary Magdalene, on that early Sunday morning. (Mark 16:9; John 20:10-18).
2. Jesus appeared to the women returning from the tomb. (Matthew 28:9-10).
3. Jesus appeared to two disciples on the road to Emmaus. (Luke 24:13-32; Mark 16:12-13).
4. He appeared to Peter in Jerusalem. (Luke 24:34; 1 Corinthians 15:5).
5. He appeared to his disciples and other followers, and also a second time to the two men from Emmaus, in a locked room in Jerusalem. The apostle Thomas wasn't there at that time. (Luke 24:36-43; John 20:19-23).
6. A week later, Jesus again appeared to his disciples behind locked doors, and this time Thomas was present. (John 20:24-29).
7. Jesus appeared to seven of his disciples on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. (John 21:1-24).
8. Jesus was seen by 500 believers at one time. (1 Corinthians 15:6).
9. He appeared to James. (1 Corinthians 15:7).
10. He appeared to eleven disciples on a mountain in Galilee. (Matt. 28:18-20).
11. He walked with his disciples along the road to Bethany, on the Mount of Olives, and then ascended into Heaven. (Luke 24:50-53).
12. He was seen by Paul on the road to Damascus. (Acts 9:3-6; 1 Corinthians 15:8).

Evidence in the bible to show Jesus' death on a cross:

Zechariah prophesied that He would be sold for thirty pieces of silver and that with this sum they would buy a potters field.

David prophesied in Psalm 22 that Christ would be tortured and crucified.

In Isaiah 53:7 we read: "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth."

In Psalm 22:18 there is a prophecy that says: "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing."

In Zechariah 12:10 we find this prophecy: "They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son."

Christ's predictions of His death are clear and cannot be denied.

The gospels record His last days on earth, including the time that He committed His spirit into His Father's hands at death. About Himself He said: "The Son of Man will be handed over into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise" (Mark 9:31). He also said: "The Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified" (Matthew 26:2). "He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and be killed and after three days rise again" (Mark 8:31 ). "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life." (John 3:14, l5).

Evidence for the crucifixion of Christ is also found in the testimony of the apostles of Christ. Peter declared to the Jews: "Jesus of Nazareth was... handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross" (Acts 2:23). John wrote: "But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from every sin" (1 John 1:7).

The amazing miracles that occurred at His death testify to the significance of that event: The sun was darkened, the curtain in the temple was torn in two, there was an earthquake and the bodies of holy men were raised to life. Those who witnessed His death were astonished and many believed in the Crucified One.

The centurion exclaimed: "Surely he was the Son of God!" (Matthew 27:54).

The records of history give further evidence of Christ's death:

1. The pagan historian Tacitus wrote about the crucifixion and suffering of Christ in the year 55 A. D.

2. Josephus, a Jew, recorded the event of Christ's crucifixion.

3. The Jewish Talmud witnesses to the fact of His death. In an edition published in 1943, on page 42, we find this sentence: "Jesus was crucified a day before the Passover."

Hope this helps!

I'm sorry.

I've been on this forum for awhile now and in real life people who seem to be well versed in the Scriptures refuting what I say with simple questions over and over again that I know they know the answer. It seems like these questions are asked just for the sake of asking them without a desire to find truth. I'm beginning to believe it's a ploy to wear out those who speak the truth. Sometimes I wonder if people do this without realizing it. I think sometimes we are so deep in our own denominational mindset that we don't see the trees because of the forest. We resist the truth not because we don't want the truth, but rather, because we can't see it through our pre-conceived belief system even if it's plain and clear in Scripture. We fight for what we believe even when Scripture says otherwise.

Anyways, these questions just wear out the saints because the answers are so simple but instead of receiving the answer and repenting, more simple questions are asked and we go round and round and round. You'll see that as the days go on but on a positive note, it makes stronger in faith and it enforce what you believe like nothing else. :)

Take care, Trina :)
