Your thought on the Christian and Living a Healthy Life...

How important is health in relation to being a christian?

Too many of God's children suffer from serious health problems or are living lifestyles that will lead to health problems in the future. Cancer, heart attacks, diabetes, obesity, and numerous other diseases kill millions of people each year even though huge amounts of money are spent on medical care, drugs, and research.

Have you really though about what it means offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to the Lord?

I'm gonna be honest and say that I never really thought about it..  tell me what your thoughts are about healthy living and being a christian?

Good health is so very important, with our walk with the LORD. I know because I was one that  was in very bad health, but thanks to our wonderful Savior, I am in good health now. It makes the work we are called to do for the LORD.
At one time 3 yrs ago I weighed close to 430lbs, was obese to the point where I had a hard time walking, was in complete kidney failure, on dialysis...but I had gastric bypas , i have lost over 250lbs, recieved my kidney transplant this past Februay, and I am out doing GOD'S work loving life and loving our LORD, our bodies are a temple to the living GOD, because HE lives in us!! and we want HIM to have a good place to live, I knw that is simplifing it but it's the truth...plus what ppl see's in us is the best tstimony there is for the LORD, they see the love of JESUS in us, and if they see we are happy being in our own skins, being helthy happy, it will just help them see tht this is the way...but remember it takes work, and wisdom...that is living healthy, eating healthy and exercising....GOD Bless all

I agree with you. Our culture loves the idea of quick prescriptions to treat symptoms. We mostly leave the roots of these problems unanswered as long as tylenol cures us of pain.

But I met someone who works at a natural Path Health Center and I've been told of amazing stories where people suffering from major pain were cured from drinking distilled water, more salads in their day along other things for different people. They talk about the amazing power the body has in healing itself if we only give it what it needs. I believe it.. the problem is people are really skeptical of all of this and are resistant to change.

I don't believe that taking care of our bodies should take precedence over my spiritual life but I do feel it's important. It was important to Daniel and his friends not to eat the kings food but what God had outlined as good for us. I don't believe in diets and the like but eating simply by what God says is good.

I think it is very important to have proper love and respect of our bodies.  For some it can take precedence over their spiritual life, and that's not good, but it should have proper place.

I've heard of the Hallelujah Diet, and things like that.  There's a lot out there, and I'm not currently stuck on any one diet.  It seems that different things work for different people.

I'm very big on google-researching about the nutrition-illness connection, and vitamin/mineral/etc. deficiencies and the conditions they cause.  As well as all the ways supplements help our conditions.

It saddens me to see the poor diet of society.  As well as the path western medicine has taken of relying on pharma drugs and treating symptoms, rather than having more study on nutrition and resolving various deficiencies.  :(

I don't even talk being a vegetarian because alot of people fight me on it. I'm just saying that we overlook food and don't see it as a deception in the end when it really is a major thing.

I'm just encouraging everyone to look into what they're putting into their bodies. :D

Sugar I'm saying we need to tone down, you'd be surprised how much sugar there is in foods - also condiments like ketchup... We may not be eating candy but it's present in other things...

I do think we should take care of our bodies as best we can. I don't think that necessarily means everyone should become a vegetarian, though that's certainly a good way to go!

I do have to say something about the diabetes, though. I think it's unfair to say it's caused by being unhealthy. I have a high rate of diabetes in my family. My grandmother had it (she was skinny and ate well), my aunt had it (also skinny), another aunt, sister, brother and mother. Some of them needed insulin, some were able to control it though diet. My mom, sister and one aunt (the other one died from complications of diabetes) all have to take insulin. I've been fortunate not to get this, though it looks like I'm the only one on my mother's side who didn't.
My mother has a lot of other health issues, including heart disease. She does not smoke, rarely drinks, eats mostly vegetarian. She's doing everything right but still has a lot of health issues. It does concern me because my brother also had a heart attack fairly young so I really don't seem to have the greatest genes in my family!

And even though some types of cancer can be lifestyle (such as lung cancer from smoking, which my grandfather died from), others can happen to the healthiest of people, even children can get cancer.

I do think it's a good idea to eat and drink as close to natural as we can (without all that artificial stuff). I just think it's healthier and our bodies do better.

But gotta admit, sometimes that juicy hamburger just really hits the spot, lol. I think it's ok to indulge a little as long as we're balancing it with healthy eating for the most part. :)

Exactly! It's funny but we often think who cares, but when we get to 60 we like living that long and wish that we could have an extra 20 years. If we lived better we could have that extra 20 years, but that unhealthy lifestyle took that away. Our love of our taste buds is what keeps us from really living healthy. (Not that healthy foods is yucky but we have trained our buds to love junk, that why healthy foods taste icky.. strange huh lol.)

For my church we have a strong focus on healthy living - things like not using coffee, wine, smoking and unclean meats. We also talk a lot about living vegan-vegetarian but it's a personal thing that everyone has a choice to do or not if they want to be vegetarian.

I became a vegetarian when I was 7 because I didn't like eating it lol. It was too much work for me :D But when I got older I heard my aunt, boyfriend and some family friends who worked at various meat factories tell me about how they treat animals and how wieners and baloney was made, I cringed - never again will I eat meat. :S

Plus, I believe fully that there is deception out there, why wouldn't there be deception with our food and our health. I thought about how Jesus was tempted with appetite and I think there is more to it that many overlook.

God's people are destroying themselves by having too much sugar & fats, eating GM foods, eating poisoned meat, wine, coffee and dairy and I feel it's really sad. We know better we've read about Daniel and his friends, yet we don't take it seriously....

Anyways, I believe that we have to be temperate in some things and in others to abstain.

NOT FORGETTING EXERCISE AND WATER! :D
