What happened?

All through the Bible it speaks of God requesting His Altar. All the Churches used to have the altar and you could go to it to pray, or accept Jesus as Savior. Now I have only seen one Church with an altar. They use steps up to where the preacher stands. I just does not feel right to me. Can anyone explain the missing Altar?

Im going to take a guess here and say the the pulpit and steps in the todays church is reffered to the Altar...as long as it's set apart and used as one, why would it have to be fancy?  I don't think God looks at the surroundings as much as a persons heart.
I love old churchs with Altars however, they are beautiful and shows God honour through Prayer by His people, but I still thinks what's in the heart is of greater importance :)

Hmmm, let's see, well, one church here has just the pulpit on the platform and a little alter on the first Sunday of the month for communion Sunday. There is another church that just has the pulpit and nothing else. The only churches that always have an alter are the Catholic churches and I think the Episcopalians do as well.
