Worse with splints?

I saw a doctor last week who suspects I have carpal tunnel in both hands. My hands love being curled inward, it’s a very weird position now that I think about it. I was given splints to sleep with, wear if I need symptom relief or if I have to strain the hands for some reason. I basically only sleep with them and I feel the symptoms have gotten worse? Is this normal? Now I suddenly even have even more noticeable and almost constant pain in my thumbs. The hands also feel weaker?
