does my child have A.D.H.D.

My son is three years of age. He has a very hard time doing the things mom and i tell him. He understands but tells us no or can you help me, when it comes to his picking up toys he has played with. Also if he starts playing with one thing before he is finished with it he wants to do something else. If he does not get his way he will throw a fit until he understand that he can play or do those things later. He never sits in chair or on the couch without figiting always moving around. He is always going to the frig. and getting things out without asking. We have told him numerous times to ask first. His favorite thing is I'm sorry when he does sometimes the same things over and over.We have spoke with he doctor and she said he could be A.D.H.D. But also said he is still only three. What do you think we can do at this point to help him out. I am going to get the book you talked about Lynn Clark's "SOS".

I'm glad to hear that you are getting Lynn Clark's book - it will help you manage the behavior. Yes, some of your son's behavior is typical of those who display ADHD, but some of the behavior does not reflect ADHD. In any case, care must always be taken in diagnosing ADHD in such a young child. Why? Because development has yet to occur to the degree that the diagnosis can become clear. Neurological development (ADHD is a neurological condiiton) occurs gradually over a course of time. I think it is too early to settle on a diagnosis of ADHD. More time needs to unfold.
