Equasym (Methyphenidate HCL) and Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine) are both classified as amphetamines, or stimulant medications. In a child who truly does not display ADHD, the medications (depending on the dose) may simply have no observable influence, or may excite the child and cause the child to be activated, overactive, etc.

My son too has been misdiagnosed and subsequently treated and medicated for everything from ADHD to OCD to Bi-Polar. He is now officially diagnosed as Asperger's. He is on NO medication and I see no effects so far of any of the medicines we tried. He was 2 1/2 when he started showing signs of something and was medicated continually with a miriad of different things until age 8. He is now 9 and is going to be in regular ed classes next year with no Behavior Disorder label. Good Luck. Aspergers needs to be more widely known.
