Dear Karen,
Be sure to ask the people who conducted the assessment of your son about the particular symptoms they observed that caused them to issue the SI diagnosis. Si can be manifested in a wide array of symptoms and levels of severity, and the prognosis very much depends on how severe the condition is. You can certainly expect significant progress.
Auditory processing involves the manner in which the brain receives and uses sounds. Often there is an association of SI and auditory processing, though they are not the same condition.

My brother, 10, has sensory intergration. On top of this, he also has 60% hearing loss in the right ear and problems with the auditory system. We recently went to Toronto for theropy at The Listening Centre. I am going to do my Junior High Science Fair project on the effect of sensory intergration disorder on the bavior of children. Can you please send me information to ***@**** Thanks again!
My 2 year old son (Will be 3 Fed 23rd). Has a sensory intergration disoerder. He is very tactifully defensive at the moment. He is a very loving little boy big on hug ands kisses. But, at times he is reckless and clumsy. He lashes out and at times even clothing bothers him. Until about 3 months ago he simply did not speak, now he says so much and we are working on getting him to communicate his needs better. I am very lucky that my state (Pennsylvania) had a wonderful program called Penn Foundation they have connected me with An OT that works with him on a weekly basis and a developmental therpaist that comes bi-weekly. Hopefully we can get a handle on this and let him be the loving and extremely intelligent child he is.
I personally think that is shows up in many forms and degrees. I never knew anything about this until I noticed that Will acted differently than my other children.
I have a 3 1/2 year old who sounds like your child. He is developing in all areas normally but he constantly will run back and forth and will hop around.I was told it could be a soothing behavior or an S.I. issue where he has a HYPO-Reactive vestibular system and his body is constantly craving/searching for movement. He defineitly does not act ADHD- excellent attention. He has always LOVED to swing- since he was a baby, he would swing forever in a swing! Does this sound like your child???

Explain the siimilarities and differences between Asperger's Syndrome and a child with sensory intergration needs. To me there seems to be a lot of cross over.

Aspergers has a definite "social" component. Difficulties with social and langauge areas, plus may have sensory integration difficulties.
