Spinal Cord inpingment & Chiropractic care

I am wondering if it is indeed safe to have chiropractic adjustments when the cervical disc(s) are pressing on the spinal cord.  I can see and feel that I am clearly out of alignment and in much pain lately.  I take Neurontin, but It seems to be losing it's effectiveness & opiates are not an option for me.

Is it safe.  Because of the delicate nature of the area I am really afraid to try it.

Thank You.

Hi Freebird.

I've had injections and will never do them again.  Back in 2000, there was an attempt to do one, but the doctor aborted the procedure because of the pain I was feeling and of course charged me for everything....lol.  Anyway, I switched Insurance's and was recommended another one 5 years after the first one.  They did not bother to give me another MRI before doing it.  The doctor did this based on a 5 year old written report??  Needless to say, I should have followed my instincts and bailed out of there.  He did the procedure and again......almost coming un-glued on the table.....he was able to get the cort. in, but for six months or more I was in horrible condition.  I was dropping things, couldn't feel my left side.....(numb) my gate was off (feet running into each other when i walk) I was a mess.  I was soooo ticked off !!!  I still am.

I was told by an ortho. in 1999 that he strongly suggested that I NOT have Chiro. treatments......I just feel so out of alignment....in pain and frustrated.....I think I will try the exercise and strength training again......thanks.

I feel very abandoned by doctors these days.....You have pain.  Deal with it, is what I am gathering.......uhg!

Thanks again, Freebird and thank you Dr. Tanase for taking the time to answer my question.

When I was dionosed with Spinal Stonosis  in the 6 and7  in my neck, The bone was crumbling causing it to push inward into the medula which was pushing into the spine I had a surgical  procedure where I was injected with a cotail of steroids  and numbing agent ( Iwould have to get the medical records out to be sure.) Let me know if you want me too. Thus far my shot has lasted about 3 and a half years. I also have sponddolosis in my lower back which is the early stages fo spinal stonosis.I saw a phycial Therapist who schooled me in strengthing exercies Exercises that acuually lifted the bone off the spine. But it was  an on going group of stretching and strengthing. Once I was well versed in the exercises she let me do them at home, and only come every three months or as needed. Which made it cost effective.  Hope this helped..freebird227

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Yes, chiropractic adjustments are safe -- but some forms are not advisable in your current condition. I would suggest you find a specialist who uses NUCCA, Grostic, or Atlas Orthogonal techniques exclusively. Rotational manipulation is ill-advised. You can find a specialist at www.UpCspine.com.

Warm wishes,
