Our 11 year old Jack Russell Terrier, Jackie, is battling this disease and it came out of nowhere for us. Up until 5 days ago, she was as active and playful as one would expect a JRT to be.
At that point, she began to not eat or eat very minimally and began losing weight.
The initial finding was that Jackie was suffering from a "raging" bladder/kidney infection. They gave her a SQ injection of fluids before we took her home. Blood work was done yesterday morning and the results that evening hit me like a ton of bricks.
Her BUN registered at 210 and her creatinine was at 31. She also had elevated phosphorous levels(I don't remember the number) and was slightly anemic.
Today we took her to the vet to have an IV push of fluid. She was given a full litre as well as some anti-nausea medication and something for the pain(I don't remember the names of the drugs).
She is home now and I gave her more SQ fluids as directed by vet. Jackie is labor info to breathe and she just seems to be suffering.
We have scheduled for a vet to come by tomorrow morning to end her suffering and assist in her death. I am just afraid we are doing this too hastily. After all, this sprang up out of nowhere!
What other options might we be overlooking? We obviously do not want Jackie to suffer and we don't want to selfishly keep her alive in her current state.
I hope you all may have answers for me in time.
Thanks to all.
