Thank you for your answer about research and President Obama. I agree everyone should quit smoking including him! As for myself I successfully quit going on 3 years ago. That doesn't change the condition my lungs are in now. That's the type of research I was talking about. Even a better oxygen delivery system would be great. I only have to use it at night but it's awkward and uncomfortable. I'm sure the time will come when I'll need it 24/7 and as most women will tell you, at that point they'd rather stay out of the public eye. I was talking also about serious research into repairing through bio-tech or some other means of actually being able to help the lungs in gas exchange. Seems like we're on the bottom of the list. I mean we did it to ourselves, so we must deserve it right? Doesn't seem to carry the same weight as other life-style Diseases!!!
I am optimistic that we will see strong support for medical science research, from the Obama administration. We currently have good ongoing research into the risks of smoking and the physiologic mechanisms of lung disease, from cigarette smoking and will see more. In the meantime, you and other smokers should take advantage of currently available medicines and state-sponsored, smoking cessation programs. The great majority of us attribute smoking to nicotine addiction, not to a “mental defect.”
Do consult with your doctor regarding medicine and call your local smoking cessation program.
Good luck.
