blood in stool

Hi, I am 20 years old and I recently saw a little drop of bright red blood on the toilet paper after bowel movement, I have recently been feeling constipated and sometimes diarrhea. I also see mucus sometimes after bowel movement. I am a little bit worried because I have a family history of colon cancer on my mother's side and on my father's side. I was wondering you you might know what I might have or if I should worry about colon cancer or if im just irritated from constipation or even hemmroids. Anyway I do not really know so this is why I am seeking medical advice. Please help!

Hi selena551,
Bleeding per rectum could be due to various reasons like hemorrhoids, polyps, IBD and cancer.Cancer is uncommon at 20 years of age.
Since you have a family history of cancer, you come under high risk group and a regular examination is needed.
Colonoscopy should be done to find out the cause of blood and mucus in stool
