Here I am again and hope I get to feel better about ovary removal or keeping them.
comments to me have been: you through menopause, why do you need your ovaries?
My question are; i have been on hrt (natural ) for 7 yrs and truely believe in them.
Should I get my ovaries removed or not. Explanation; Bio-identical hormones

Hope to hear from you. levyn3

I am thinking the drs reasoning is, the ovaries are no longer functioning, we are going in anyway, so why not remove them while we are there. It would cut out ovarian cancer in the future, but the final decision should be yours.

As for the questions about when to use them during the surgery, it would be best to get the drs say so, but here's what I am wondering. Since the ovaries are no longer providing the hormones anyway, you are getting the hormones from the HRT, why would you not use them?

As for the estrogen, I think if the dr keeps the lab work up to date, you can see where the estrogen is in range or not, and go from there.

BUT the main thing is to have a dr that you can discuss all this with to your satisfaction.

Well, if the reason is to avoid cancer, why not also remove breasts, colon, lungs, pancreas.... Come to think of it why not remove everything?

You need a better explanation for what these doctors are recommending.

Well, I had made up my mind since I had no problem ever with female problems except for this prolapse of bladder and uterus that the ovaries were going to stay even thou I will have the hysterestory. BUT!! All 3 doctors and one being a uro-gyn said they (ovaries) should come out or need to come out (this is their reason...so you won't have to worry about ovarian cancer) but the uro-gyn said he won't take them when surgery is performed. Great!!

I want to know what the bug fuss is and why these 3 think they should come out?  Do you have a answer for this? I think its for extra money if for no other reason.

Why in this world would you have your ovaries removed, when there is no specific indication. All surgery presents a risk and is traumatic to the body.

Hi laura,

when researching i read on one of the sites.."you don't have voaries removed unless they are cancerous". Then I hear doctors say you are post menopausal, there's no function of the ovaries..you don't need something that isn't working or it will keep you from worrying about ovarian cancer!. Then my hormone nurse practitioner. says, " she can't over ride the doctor".
Then I asked why must I not apply the hormone creme before and after surgery.  I am getting upset over this and thought I had researched all I could about removal of ovaries.  I told my surgeon that I wanted to keep my ovaries and he really didn't recommend that. He said he woudln't remove them.
Laura, I have been on this site previously and explained what needs to be done.  Have changed my doctors because the one doctor didn't care what I wanted.  Now with this doctor (uro-gyn) will not remove the ovaries when he does surgery for a prolapse bladder and prolapse uterus which includes a hysterectory. I know I am not explaining this correctly....but here are my concerns.  Do I NOT use the hormone creme before and after the surgery for a short time  or continue to use as normal.  New doctor says the estrogen in the hormones could cause a stroke.  2. Where's Suzanne Sommers when you need her??? Yes I am post menopausal which makes sense they are not functioning but they are there and never gave me any problems nor do I worry about them, there is no ovarian cancer in my family and being 67 yrs young  I think I have a right to find out what is the best procedure since many have been trying to discourage me about the keeping my ovaries.  What do you know about this? please advise

Why does your Dr want to remove your ovaries? Wonderful to hear you are doing so well and on natural hormone replacement. So you are post menopausal?
