colon resection and child birth

I am a 30 year old female who just had a colon resection on july 22 2010 due to chrons desease i have had chrones since 15 and have had a really hard time with it. to the extent that i had ostomy for 7 years however i had it reversed and. during having the ostomy i had given birth to my son in 06 he turned out perfect. it is almost five years later and i would like to try for one more but am very scared because my chrons flared more after i gave birth to the point that i am on disability for it now. I feel better after this surgery i just have bloating in my belly at times but on top of the chrons i also have a very narrow anal that gets dialated. i want to know what my chances are of having another child or is it something i shouldnt even consider at all so i know what steps to take to eaither tie my tubes and come to terms with the possibility. i am really so very confussed.

Hi, I am 38 this year and am hoping once I get my Crohns in remission to have a child as I have been warned not to get pregnant with a flare up. You risk miscarrying and its not advisable.  I certainly don't want to be pregnant and be in so much pain. Why put yourself through that?

Try high doses of fish oil to help with your bloating and cut out sugar, dairy, caffeine, alcohol and gluten. I'm finally on the right track with a naturopath who specialises in crohns and this was her first advice. Gluten is the no.1 driving factor along with stress for auto immune diseases.

I had my first child 2years before my "official" crohns dx...and my second child 4 years after dx of crohns. The preg wasn't planned, but I wasn't having a flare up or taking any meds at the time so we felt pretty good about our chances of a good pregnancy & birth.

It was tough when the vomiting started at 3 months into it, extreme fatigue, & then a flare up during my 28th week which put me in the hospital & on iv steroids. It was considered a high risk preg at that point forward and sonograms were done every few wks to monitor her growth...which had slowed down. She was born 1 week early, perfectly healthy, and weighed 6 lbs.

We feel very blessed to have 2 healthy kids & have chosen not to push our luck (or my health) to have anymore.  It is possible for a Crohns pt to have a full term pregnancy & deliver a healthy baby -- but there are many factors to consider especially your individual
health history and current status.  Just remember that pregnancy can be hard on a healthy  woman's body... It can be extremely tough for women suffering from crohns dx.  I wish you the best of luck!
