Sick and on Remicade - Concerned..

I have had a sore throat for a little over a week now accompanied by dizziness, vomiting, headaches, and runny nose. I was sent to the ER last night by an urgent care doctor because she thought I might be having a flare-up of Crohn's, since I also had a fever. I can't see my primary care physician right now because I'm out of town. They sent me home saying it was a viral and I should be better in a couple of days. My biggest concern is that I take Remicade for Crohn's, which severely compromises my immune system. I was told by the nurse that administers my REMICADE that if I were to get sick I would have to be admitted because my body doesn't have the ability to fight off the virus. If it's already been over a week, and I'm not getting better, what do you think I should do? The ER doctor didn't seem to think it was a big deal that I was on Remicade..

I know what you are saying.  I also take Remicade, and am getting sick for the first time since I was diagosed with Crohn's.  I am worried.  It is not a Flare-up sick, I have had plenty of those.  I have NOT had chips of any sort, or milk products.  It is now Oct and you posted your question in June, can you tell me are you still sick? If not, how long did it take you to get over your sickness? Can you please help me out and let me know what to expect... I am also taking Imuran...another suppressant, like Remicade...

Your symptoms:
Sore throat:  Have you eaten Nachos or Doritos lately?  I get a sore throat nearlly every time I eat them since appearantly I don't chew them good which causes them to cut my throat as I swallow.......I ask since you don't mention fever!

Dizzy-get a BP measuring device that you can put on your wrist to see if your blood pressure falls when you stand.  Do you get a tingling sensation in your toes and fingers?  If you do then you have Peripheral neuropathy which also causes dizzyness but can be stopped by eating healthy-eggs,yogurt,meat,cheese,B-vitamins,Benfotiamine

Vomiting,Headache,and runny nose....You get allergies?

Did you ask them what Virus is causing your symptoms?  and how they know?

I AM NO DOCTOR but
to me it looks like you have symptoms-dizzy,sore throat-of malnurishment from the Crohns and the vomiting.  You drink milk?  Take Papaya Enzyme or Bromelain with your food?  You need to eat eggs, milk, yogurt, meat, digestive enzyme like bramelain, Multivitamins,B-vitamins,etc, and MORE Vitamins since your digestive tract is NOT working Properly!

DO NOT TAKE Anti-diarhea Medication!
This WILL KILL YOU IF YOU DO!   You do NOT want any blockage in your colon caused by anti-diarhea medication...........Any blockage can be deadly-TOXIC Megacolon!   If you take Alkaseltzer make sure it won't be anti-diarhea type!

Why don't they have you on something else besides Remicade?
Merck manual says Remicade effects are Short-LIVED!  Don't last long!

Infliximab=Remicade....See Merck says you MAY need other immune modulators

Excerpt:
Infliximab, which is derived from monoclonal antibodies, is another modifier of the immune system's actions. Infliximab Some Trade Names
REMICADE
infused intravenously, can be given to treat moderate to severe Crohn's disease that has not responded to other drugs, to treat people with fistulas, and to maintain response when the disease is difficult to control. However, because the benefits of each infusion of infliximab Some Trade Names
REMICADE
are short-lived, other treatments are needed between infusions. Such treatments may include other immunomodulating drugs such as azathioprine Some Trade Names
IMURAN
, mercaptopurine Some Trade Names
PURINETHOL
, or methotrexate Some Trade Names
RHEUMATREX
. Because infliximab Some Trade Names
REMICADE
is a relatively new drug, its long-term benefit and all of its side effects are not yet known, but it may worsen an existing uncontrolled bacterial infection, may reactivate tuberculosis, and may increase the risk of some types of cancer. Some people have reactions such as fever or rash during the infusion.
