Hi there!
Infliximab is a monoclonal antibody used to treat autoimmune diseases. It may take 1-3 months of treatment to notice response to the medication in ulcerative colitis.
Hope this information helps.
Take care!
I had my first infusion in September. I notice an improvement almost right away but I was still having issues. It wasn't until after my 3rd infusion that I really started having remarkable improvement.
i had ma 5th infusion but its not working am still seening blood in ma stool am so worried abt it :-(
I started the remicade ast February and it helped within a few weeks. As time went on my body started to resist it. I was getting almost twice the recommended dose and going every month instead of every 6-8 weeks to be just "okay". I would talk to your GI specialist about the medications again and your alternatives just so if the Remicade doesn't work for you, you are already on your way to trying a different medications. I was breaking out in rashes and getting really bad headaches after my infusions. As you probably know, remicade is made from rat cells, and maybe your body doesn't like that too much. My doctor told me that there's a 30-60-% chance that the remicade will work, but not for a long time. Those who respond to it at first will most likely do better on Humira which is made from human cells.
Sammy, I know it can get a little frustrating, but have you tried changing up your diet? Stay away from sugar, caffeine, and gluten.
Also, do you take any natural anti-inflammatory medications? My step dad got me to start taking Curcumin about 2 years ago and my flare ups are rare.
And like I replied to the poster of this question, remicade doesn't work for everyone. As your doctor has probably been having you do, go for blood work then talk to him/her about the results. Remicade can take a while to work, but if you feel horrible, why not try something else, right?
no i dnt take natural anit-inflammatory med. am taking curcumin tabz. i love eating raw rice i try to stop but i cant xx
