Nearly all 160 state legislators are enrolled in a program that costs just $8.34 a month for individual coverage and $30 a month for family coverage.

This is from our local newpaper - http://www2.tbo.com/news/news/2011/aug/10/3/rick-scott-pays-less-than-400-annually-for-state-h-ar-249622/

This frustrates me as a patient that more affordable healthcare for us isn't out there...I can see they get paid sometimes in benefits but no one said they had to take a job with no pay right?  While these officials are reaping the benefits of office, we taxpayers are footing the bill

"The state is projected to spend $2 billion during its current budget year to provide health insurance coverage. Most of the money spent on state worker health insurance coverage comes from taxpayers and not employee premiums."

Gov. Rick Scott, a critic of the federal health care overhaul, is paying less than $400 a year for health insurance for himself and his wife.  While Scott is accepting no salary for his job as governor, the multimillionaire and former hospital chain executive chose to enroll in the taxpayer-subsidized health insurance plan offered by the state of Florida.

Scott is among nearly 32,000 people in state government who pay relatively low health insurance premiums. It's a perk that is available to high-ranking state officials, including those in top management at all state agencies.

Nearly all 160 state legislators are also enrolled in the program that costs just $8.34 a month for individual coverage and $30 a month for family coverage.

my stomach rolled when i read this; my heart breaks because there are so many of us out there who can't afford health insurance or treatment.

Typical for a politician.  Honestly, this is what we get when we do not research political candidates.  If one were to sit and look at what he did to the hospitals and the "fraud" in regards to Medicare and Medicaid..... why in the hell would you vote to make this criminal governor?

Typical song and dance routine.  He probably got plenty of votes when he said he'd take no salary.  Walk in, make a bunch of promises, scare some old people and minorities, let everyone know that you are on their side...KAPOW!!!!!  Elected!

Well, teko might have been bagging on the right, but as a fellow Floridian (and pretty much known to side with the right, most of the time), she got it right, this time.

Rick Scott is a scum hopper to beat all of them.  I can not, for the life of me, understand what got into Florida citizens to elect someone of his caliber...... talk about a crook; he's got almost all of them beat. He bankrupted an entire hospital system, defrauded Medicare and Medicaid, then went on to become governor of our State....... something wrong with this picture!!

If he ever puts in a bid to run for President, we ALL need to make sure he's not successful.

it does...but I like to read what others have to say and see others point of views; just hard for me now to comprehend some things with cognitive problems...some things in this section I read and say wow I never thought of that before.

I was shocked he was using this health care because he's been in the news and paper trying to repeal the whole program; if he felt so strongly about it he has tons of money why not make a point and buy your own private insurance?

criticizing the healthcare reform but yet using the program and letting taxpayers foot his bill

I'm not political; debate gives me a headache for the most part and my brain just can't comprehend it...but I think this is the definition of "hypocrite" is that the correct word? not putting him down just saying that's the legal definition of what's he's doing...if my brain is working correctly.

Great article...

Question though: Why are you calling the Right out, and not calling the left out in the same sentence?

It's not like this is a "Republican Only" program. Both the Right AND Left take part in, and take advantage of, this program.

Just curious why you're bagging on the Right and not your brethren/cohorts on the Left.

If you're going to call them out, at the very least, mention that the lack-luster Left'wingers currently in power, and otherwise, are taking FULL advantage of the program as well.

I'm just sayin'...

He is starting to make-the-rounds now visiting states and smiling about his best pals, Rick Perry and the Bush brothers. Crooks stand in a circle and protect themselves against all barbs thrown at their teflon-coated skin.

They feel no pain, from the evil that they pass out. Jeb Bush as a former Governor-Fl dismissed a lot of the heat against Tenet Healthcare on charges of fraud in Medicare and Medicaid cases in Florida. He now is on the board accepting a paycheck from Tenet Healthcare.

HCA hospitals got into trouble under former CEO-Rick Scott with fraud charges in Medicare cases. As the Feds were walking in the front door, Scott was going out the back. HCA hospitals formed by Tom Frist, Sr-Tenn. handed work over to his son, who is in business with Rick Scott in a DEAL in China investing in healthcare programs, CHC.

Unless, Americans start calling these bums out on the crap that they are pulling, there will never be an upward ladder to the land-of-survival, again.

Great points. AND, the very same healthcare that they have by the way, that they feel is not good nuff for us? Good enuff for them tho I guess.

Rick Scott spent 60 mil of his own money to get into office. He is known for medicare fraud when he was the CEO of the hospital. Recently, he enacted a drug test for any applying for cash assistance. Keep in mind now, that all the other states come to florida to go to certain doctors to get script written and filled. Then take it back and sell it on the streets. Genius.  I wont go any further except to say, this is the same man that has to bus people in to carry signs and show approval of him at his functions. LOL
