I love going go the massive Octoberfest we have in our city. It's BIG fun!
Not getting where you are coming from Vance.
I was saying it would be stupid for Americans to celebrate Boxing Day in America. And I if you live in a country you celebrate the countries holidays and not from where you are from. Maybe using Canada is wrong as an example because if it was not for the 4th then Canada might still be under the Queens control.
Been away awhile..hi all!
Vance...do you have any idea how many Americans live in Canada? We have tons of them living here for work (oil and gas). They love to celebrate the 4th, and we love to join them, because they have chosen to make this their home, even if temporarily. They are our guests, and call me crazy, but where I come from, we like to make our guests feel welcome and at home. So when they want to light off the fireworks to celebrate an important holiday TO THEM, such as the 4th of July, we accomodate even though it has no meaning in Canada. A much better attitude then the one your displaying don't you think? When they proudly wear their stars and stripes, I don't feel the need to immediately don my maple leaf. Because them celebrating the 4th isn't a slam against the country they live in, it's just them celebrating their heritage and their country. So I'll join them!!! And so will pretty much everyone else I know.
As for boxing day...yep, it's our tradition. Sorry you think it's stupid. It gives us an extra day off work for the holidays...and we don't kill each other shopping for deals. No one seems to get hurt. Hmmmm.....
That's all I have to say. A few more posts I want to comment on, and a few messages to return (thanks for thinking about me). Missed you all, but it's late and it's bedtime. Couldn't resist posting on this one though!
xo
would it be okay to you if they were wearing them to make some kind of statement to the kids that were celebrating May 5th?
I think we are the same in terms of kids treating others, I think it is intolerant of others not to respect the views of the American flag students.
Well, we have to disagree then.
If it were my kids and they were pulling out the flag shirt because they knew kids were celebrating cinco de maya and they wanted to make a statement "THIS IS AMERICA!" . . . I'd feel like I failed as a parent.
Because I value diversity and try to instill those values into my kids. And if I fail, I'll be really disappointed in myself.
Those kids' parents failed them in my eyes.
But Vance, it is clear we don't look at this the same way. We have different ideas of how a kid should act toward their fellow students.
