Ongoing problem

I have had a nagging toothache since before Christmas. Between Christmas and NY the pain got worse and I managed to get an emergency dental appointment and the dentist prescribed 7 days of antibiotics because she thought it was a gum infection. The antibiotics made no difference so I saw my regular dentist last Thursday. X-rays showed my roots are perfect and there are no obvious problems but because of my tooth's extreme sensitivity my dentist dug out the top of my tooth's filling and "re-insulated it". The pain has been a bit better today but I still can't live with it. Any ideas?

I would say the same thing, which is to wait it out and see if you get any improvement in the next few days.  Did he prescribe any pain medication?  You may want to get some of that too to help with the pain temporarily.

It sounds like you have a cracked tooth. Your tooth is traumatized from the drilling. I would give it a couple of days to see if it calms down, ask the Dentist to use a tooth sluth to check each cusp for a crack. goodluck
