Patient Centered Dental Care

Since 1993 I have had no luck in finding a dentist that will treat my poor oral health by my request; re: total extraction and dentures.  They all want to save my natural dentitian, even at the risk to my overall health. I have a physicans statement to this effect.  I'm allergic to all but 2 very old antibiotics.
Medical doctors give the dagnosis, treatments available with the pros and cons of each, this includes doing nothing at all.  The PATIENT then makes the decsion of which course of treatment to take.
In 1993 husband went to dentist.  Wanted total extraction and dentures.  Dentist said no and husband had multiple root canals and crowns placed.  Starting in 2007 each and everyone has failed with loss.  He now has a mouth full of rotting snags, is diabetic and on Medicare.  If he had been told that root canals and crowns have a lifespan of 17 years +/- 3 years he would never have had the procedures.  They also led to mandibular lymph gland removal in 1996.
Just want to know, just when did dentists become more god-like than medical doctors.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
I'm not sure.  I've been in practice only since 2006.  I've been personally trained with the exact ideal model that you had mentioned.  Its the one in which the doctor provides informed consent, all the risk, benefits, options, alternatives and lets the patient decide what they want.
