Tooth sensitivity

Hi.

As far as I know I don't have gum disease - my gums don't bleed and I have no plaque. I also don't have any cavities. However I have had my two front teeth scraped often by dentists getting rid of plaque that builds up quite often on my two front teeth. Therefore I think my enamel has worn down. Also my dentist said I have been using the wrong technique for cleaning my teeth - he showed me a new less aggressive way to brush my teeth. As a result of wrong technique and scrapingI have a strong tooth sensitivityon my two frint teeth - it is a constant dull  ache ( aches 24hrs a day )- feels like pressure and a uncomfortable constant throbbing - I would not say cold or hot foods make it worse but I notice when I drink my diluted blackcurrant juice this makes it worse.

I have tried sensodyne and a special toothpaste that is sup post to repair enamel - they don't help that much and I have tried these for several months. I tried a fluoride mouth wash and I think this irritated my teeth and made it worse.

My dentist told me there is nothing he can do as once the enamel is gone - you cannot recreate it. He just recommended the fluoride mouthwash which I think has made it worse and to change by brushing technique. Both these have shown no improvement after 3 weeks.

I cannot not stand this throbbing constant pain and it is really upsetting me - I read in the NHS guidelines and on the Colgate advice page that the dentist can paint fluoride gels on your teeth and also maybe a tooth bonding treatment and even possibly a root canal

however my dentist did not mention any of these - so I am confused - why he did not mention these

Please can someone help me to get rid of my horrible pain

many thanks

Your dentist can also place fluoride gel on the tooth to help with the sensitivity.  You can continue to use the sensodyne toothpaste for sensitivity as well.  Your dentist may also have various dentin desensitizers available to him.  Some brands are D/Sense or MI Paste may work to help with sensitivity.  He can also place bonding (white composite fillings).  If that doesn't work, a root canal can be done but a crown MAY need to be placed also after a root canal.
