Why does skin burn only when touched a certain way, with nothing visible?

On my outer left hip/thigh, I have about a 4inx4in section of skin that is causing a burning sensation. The weird thing is that the burning sensation only occurs when I rub my hand down my skin. Not when I rub up, pat it, bump it, or anything else. It is a very intense sensation. There is no sign of a rash or irritant. Everything looks completely normal.
