I am soo happy to have found the answer that squeezing limes on jicama in the sun is what caused all these small brown spots on my hands overnight (mainly between thumb and index finger) just this past week.
Can anyone of you who have experienced this please tell me if they do indeed fade away and how long it takes?
Thank you in advance!
This is the clearest answer I have seen here to the spots that appeared overnight on the back of my right hand. Just below the knuckles, they are basically splotches. There is about 10 per cent of the same on the back of my left hand too between the thumb and index finger. I had taken to making lime juice on an extractor and i live in the tropics, in Singapore where it is sunny all the time. I thought the spots could be a reaction to ginger, which I was mixing into the drink. But while ginger can cause hives, the spots that appeared on my hands are not itchy or scaly like hives. Another reply in this thread mentions they could be burns on the skin from a photoreactive agent in limes when exposed to the skin and sun. This could explain the localised nature of the problem. It appears that while this explains my condition, it may not be the answer to some of the others'. I wish them luck. This is a useful site and the only one where people share such concerns and answers is such useful detail. Thank you.
I noticed multiple brown spots on my stomach, back, face, hands, arms, legs that appeared overnight. I tried to wash them off, and realized that it wasn't dirt.
I had been in the sun two days prior. I was on an antibiotic, Keflex, at the time, and had also taken Melatonin 3 mg to help go to sleep for 4 nights that week. The only other thing was that I used a spray-on sunscreen that I had never used before.
This occurred 2.5 years ago, and the spots have not faded.
I did not have any exposure to limes or citrus fruit that week. I believe that the lime juice phenomena is a separate deal. That is not what happened to me.
That makes a lot of sense because lately I have been eating a lot if grapefruits and being around my citrus trees.
I am pregnant and from one day to the next I develop some blotches on my hands that started as red and now to brown almost purple is been a week my doc gave me an ointment and it is lighter but I notice is spreading between my fingers... told me if it doesn't get better by two weeks he will recommend me to a dermotoligest ... he said it might be an allergeic reaction to something I came in contact with
Ok i have the same thing , this spots usually caused by citrus juice and sun , i had a bbq at friends pool and was making mojitos all day on the sun, squeezing lime all day + sun caused that, they dont itch or hurt , might stay for over a month on your hands. Its a burn that caused by sun when citrus gets on your hands. Hope that helps.
